Loving It!

I feel like a different person! So happy I decided to take the dreads out. In need of a trim and a colour but loving it so much.

I was going to dye it dark, but I 've been loving the colour now the dreads are out, roots need bleaching and the rest needs re-dying to brighten it up but I think the red will stay for now at least!

Now - to re-learn how to do my hair!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating.

I'm thankful for you all taking the time to visit me here x x

peace

No more dreads

A day and a half it's taken. A day and a half of combing, combing, combing. But at last I am finished!!!! NO MORE DREADS! And a morning out with half dreaded hair (hidden under a hat)

When we got home I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening just combing out dreads. The girls asked (!) to do some workbooks, so we all sat around the table for the afternoon. And I carried on until half 11 last night - determined I'd be done before I went to bed. Slathered my hair in conditioner last thing. It's nice being able to brush my hair, but I have NO idea what to do with all of this hair now.

I look so weird ha! I got a shock when I looked in the mirror this morning. I have so much hair. It hasn't been this long in years. I don't know what to do with it all.

I'm thinking of dying it dark and letting my fringe grow out some. I think I'm aiming for something like this:

Time for a change

I've been busy crafting this morning. Making christmas ornaments for those of you who signed up here to swap with me! I'm so excited to get them finished and sent out. They're all made, and parceled up - hoping to pop down to the post office soon! I'm really looking forward to getting some through the post too - I <3 it when the postman comes knocking!

Also, I've decided it's time for a change. I've been thinking for a while about taking my dreads out, and I've decided to do it! aargh... I'm still not certain, BUT I've been on about it for so long that  I think I'm just going to do it. They can always go back in. I really really miss having hair I can do something with.

Lately, as I've been blog surfing I keep coming across photos of people with long, dark flowing locks and I'm jealous! I don't feel as if my dreadlocks fit me anymore, if that makes sense? I've changed a lot in the last 18 months, and I'm finally finding the confidence to be who I want to be. Sod what anyone else thinks... I don't care if I'm a mass of contradictions. I need to do/look/be how I want.

And then I read Julianna's from hello, serendipity post on why women desiring beauty is a beautiful thing and I realised that it's OK to want to look beautiful. It's ok to wear make-up, and do my hair and get dressed up. And honestly, right now? I don't feel pretty, I hate my messy hair, and while I like the idea of dreadlocks, and maybe if mine were neater, tidier more perfect, but as they are, I just don't feel very feminine.

So - I have the long and probably painful task of combing them out - not looking forward to that one! I'm going to make a start now, sitting on the sofa while the girls watch Peter Pan, as I'm not feeling very well right now.

Knitting!

I've had this wool on my needles for weeks, slowly being knitted into a headband to hold my dreads out the way. And finally it's finished!!!

My knitting skills aren't great, knit one, purl one is about all I can manage, so I'm wondering how many things I can make out of simple, straight pieces of knitting LOL

6 Months of Dreadlocks

It's been 6 months since I put my dreads in, and they're beginning to settle in and I can truly say I LOVE them!!

Here's me before the dreads:

Having dreads was something I've wanted to do for ages, but never had the courage to actually do. After following Sara and Em's blogs, and admiring their dreadlocks I finally plucked up the courage to do mine! I had a little help from G, and over the course of a couple of days, in between children looking after I dreadlocked my hair. Here's them just after they were all finished:

And here's them now:

Looking back at them just after I put them in and seeing them now makes me realise just how much they've changed in 6 months. They're beginning to lock up and look like 'proper' dreadlocks at last. There have been times when I've despaired that they were never going to mature, but I can see that slowly they are - I'm not always too good at waiting for things!

I've gotten less self-concious about them as time's gone on, at first I was really aware of these 'things' on my head. but as they've settled down, I've settled into them and now I forget they are even there -and it takes me a moment to remember why people might stare - duh! pillar box red dreadlocks!!!!

All in all, it's one of the best decision's I've made - here's to many more years of dreadlocks :-)
